I have a date field in my table and my computer date is set as a custom long date, if I enter 24/2/07 in my date field when I press enter and move to the next field it is displayed as Saturday 24 February 2007 but when I select the date field again it reverts back to 24/2/07. I include the date field in a merge with a word document and would like the date displayed as Saturday 24 February 2007, but the merge is displayed as 24/2/07. Can anyone help with how to merge the date as Saturday 24 February 2007?

Thanks in advance
Pat.

Mail Merge is a pain in the A....

You need to look up "switch" in Word help

From W2002 help:

Date-Time Picture (\@) field switch
Specifies the display of a date or time. This switch is called a "picture" switch because you use symbols to represent the format of the field result.

For example, the switch \@ "dddd, MMMM d, yyyy" in the field { DATE \@ "dddd, MMMM d, yyyy" } displays "Friday, November 24, 2000." Combine the following date and time instructions — day (d), month (M), and year (y); hours (h) and minutes (m) — to build a date-time picture. You can also include text, punctuation, and spaces.

OK
Right click on the merge field and select toggle merge field. Then edit it so it looks something like:

Thankyou for your donation on {MERGEFIELD "DateFieldName" \@ "dddd, MMMM d, yyyy" }

Hi Dave,

Works perfectly many, many thanks.

Thanks Dave,

I looked at this on Sat and thought I'd have a play, not only did I get nowhere but discovered that the short date displayed was now in US format :mad: , so I was very pleased to see your response.

Like I said...

Mail Merge is a pain in the A....

I searched forever, and eventually found this info. One thing I also tried was to format the date in the query, but when the query was selected as the record source in the mail merge, the formatted field was not listed.
