I need this done to work by 4:30 Atlantic time...OY

I have the 2 forms that are to:
1) Take in the names of new children and add them to the db
2) Take in points based on the child chosen.

I have the following problems:
1) The Points form will not update to a newRecwhen a child is selected
2) The combobox for selecting the Childs name Will ONLY show the first name after a selection or if typing in the name. I wish for it to show both as names are not unique.
3) The Points need to be added up to show the total for that day (txtbox) and deisplayed based on the checks chosen, just make each worth 1 point and I can change it later (+ the addition of the extra point txtbox)
4) Update the childs total point value (also a txtbox and field in child table)
5) Have a way to subtract points when used (ie. small form where choose name and either show total points and a txtbox to - them or a check to say all points used)

This is VERY IMPORTANT that it is done by tonight!
PLEASE HELP as it seems small but i am lost for time and was stuck on the points form!

THANKS

1. You have the DoCmd.GotoRecord, , acNewRec line in the form's Open event - it should go in the form's Load event. This is because the Open event occurs when the form is opened by the records haven't been loaded into it. So, because there is no records, you can't go to a new one. The load event occurs once the records are loaded into the form.

2. Comboboxes can only display one field of information although they can hold lots more. So, to display the child's full name you are going to have to amend the query in the combobox's rowsource to create a calculated field by concatenating the first and last name fields to create a new field. The combobox should then be amended to only have two columns. The SQL is:

SELECT tbl_children.id, [first_name] & " " & [last_name] AS FullName FROM tbl_children ORDER BY [first_name] & " " & [last_name];

Remember to amend the ColumnWidths too.

3. Write a small sub at the form level that evaluates the value of each checkbox in turn and gives it a score. On the AfterUpdate event of each checkbox call the sub.

4. This should be easily calculable by using a totals query or using the DSum aggregate function rather than storing a calculated value in a table.

but ...

the check boxes won't work..

It looks like the form is bound to a recordset that is not updateable.

that may be true but i am not able to take any time on it right now, please, ANY functionality as far as the points adding to the names would be great! :(

This is a nightmare to work with. Your structure is completely wrong. I've given you the functionality that you want up to the totalling of points by fixing some aspects of your tables.

You shouldn't be storing the total points in the table at all. You should really have the DateOfBirth of the person rather than their age, day of birth, and month of birth.

thanks

there was a reason for that, as most of these kids do not know their year of birth, so from age, day and month we could find the rest, bu thanks
