I am using an inventory software program called ERP. I am trying to have at least 8 decimal places show in all my reports/tables/etc. I have set decimal places to 8 and 8 are showing up in some the reports BUT after the 4th decimal place, the other 4 decimals default to 0 (i.e. I put .19214, but only
.19210000 shows up). In other tables only 4 decimal places are showing up (no 0 or anything after the 4th decimal place. I would greatly appreciate any help!!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Neverheard of ERP...not sure. Do they have a support forum somewhere?

it is a program that uses Access. When I asked support at ERP they said to use the help option in access!!!

What is the data type/size of the field in the table?

Hmm; double should be able to hold those decimals. There's no code rounding off the number? Are you entering data directly into the table and it's rounding?

Paul-the funny thing is that In the tables one of the fields was able to display
the exact number that I put in. As for the other fields that I need to display 7they only displayed 4 of the decimal places that I put and the
other 3 default to 0 after I click out of the field. For the one that displayed all 7 decimals that I typed in, there is an option for Field Size (which I set to single) so I think that is why it is displaying all 7 decimals. As for the other fields they did not have the Field size option so I could not change it. I hope this information helps!! thank you so much!!!

If they don't have a field size option, what data type are they? Sounds like they may be Currency, which would be limited to 4 decimal places.

Actually, setting something to single doesn't limit the number of displayed places to 4. Try, for example, setting a SINGLE to 1.0/3.0 and look at the result.

The catch is, nobody remembers this about VBA, but if your data source is a query and an expression gets involved somewhere, you may have what is called an implied CAST. If one of the members of an expression is currency, you might end up carrying forward the properties of the currency field due to the cast. Also, if you can see the design of things, look for display formats that limit you to 4 places.

Technically, a currency field is a very long integer with a scaled decimal place. If somehow an integer cast has occurred, that's where your places went.

If that was meant for me, I didn't say anything about single being limited to 4.

I changed them from Currency to General Number and still only 4 decimal places with the numbers I put and the other 3 default to 0!! I am at a loss!!

There is no "General Number" data type (at least in A2k). If it's "Number", what is the field size? If it's the default "Long Integer", that would explain the 0 decimal places.

I am looking under the format tab at format..my format was currency but I changed it to general. where should I be looking for the data type? if I look under the data tab the only options I have are:
control source, input mask, default value, validation rule, validation text, enabled, locked and filter lookup.

I am sorry but I am really not experienced with Access (I am sure you could tell).

I really appreciate you trying to help me!

It sounds like you're on a form. We want to open the table itself in design view and click on the field in question. The data type will be in the second column in the section above, and the Field Size will be in the properties below.

In the table that I think I need to be in to change it so it works throughout the different functions I cannot. it says that "the property cannot be modified in linked tables". I have changed it on other tables so that the data type is number and the field size is single...but it is still not showing my numbers past the 4 decimals (the other 3 are defaulting to 0) in the form that I use and it seems that the numbers for all my reports/tables are pulled from this form? I hope I am making sense...thank you so much everything Paul!!!!!!!!!
