Default Value in a Form

Hi I am having some difficulty with the default value in a form.

I would like it to be the value in the previous record. I have been using DLast, but for some reason it doesnt seem to work for some of my fields. For the field "Station" it works but for the field "Field Officer" it returns an error in the form.

Can anyone shed some light on this. And do you think dlast is a good way of achieving my aims?

Some more info, I have been entering in the DLast function. e.g. =DLast("Field Officer","Cotton13/14") in the default value property box.
