Hey forum,

I would like to sell items on ebay and want to keep track of them and to make sure I have all costs down I thought a database would be a kwl idea. Has anyone got an idea on what I would need and how to create it ??

This forum is really for asking specific questions concerning your DB. We can give you ideas though as I have never used Ebay to any extent I would have none to offer you. I think you would be best served if you came up with the ideas of what you needed and then attempted asking questions as you got stuck. A great resource is the recommended reading list and this website. Just type in your specific problem in the search field and it will help you answer it. Hope this helps.

Hello MIS

I think that I would start reading about normalization. If I am insulting your experience, I apologize in advance. I feel that this is crucial to the development of any DB regardless of size or application. If you are familiar with that it is probably a good review anyhow. This forum has pointed me back in the right direction on many occasions. There also have been numerous suggestions on how to develop a DB from scratch. A common theme seems to be to develop on paper a flow of your DB. This seems to make sure that you get most of your table requirements brought to the surface in the initial stages of development. Although I cannot speak with any great experience, there also seems to be some specific considerations regarding data storage vs data retrieval/manipulation. Perhaps some of the more experienced members can speak to that.

Good luck with your design!!
