More info

Hi Ken

forSiteName = subform1
forContactsJobTracking = subform2

The subform2 has the cboLocation control that I'm trying to requery from.

forms!frmMain!subform1.form!subform2.form!cboBox.requery

=

forms!forCustomerDetails2!forSiteName.form!forContactsJobTracking.form!cboLocation.requery

This is the correct syntax. You may have other problems. Can you put together enough to post?

F9 does it

I've found that after searching the archives that F9 does exactly what I want. Now I want it run when I alter the data in cboLocation.

Ok. So you have a text box bound to the location fld. When you select it, you get 'Site' and 'Regional Office' as options. The way it is set up, these are the only options. So you can leave it blank or select one. If you don't select one - no problem. If select one it is supposed to store it in the location fld.

Looks like it works to me.

Is this correct - What's the problem?

Is this correct - What's the problem?

Hi Ken

When you change the location of the contact to the Regional Office he becomes a manager and is used for grouping contacts. They should then appear in the cboManager as an option to select.

Hope that's clear.

Thx

PS - F9 does exactly what I'm attempting to do automatically

Sorry - I guess I just don't understand the logic. I will say that it appears as though you may be trying to do too much with one form. Four forms deep is very hard to manage...

Good luck...

I'm either a novice or an idiot.

Hi Ken

I guess you weren't impressed with the way that I grouped the higher level contacts.

Strangely, F9 refreshes the data exactly as I would like it to work.

Thanks for looking.

I tried to follow the progress with your table design but got side tracked so it was hard figure out what you had in mind with the contact stuff. The pie in the sky situation, (in my humble opinion), is to have one form for each table. Out of all the db's that I've done, I really can on only remember one where I had several subforms. It was a nightmare trying to do validation, etc., with so many levels of events firing off...

Any who - about the only other thing that comes to mind is to suggest that if you start to get overwhelmed with a problem, ask if what ever it is that is causing the problem really required in the basic requirements of the db, if not, yank it out. Sounds like contact stuff is the core of you db so you would need to get it right...

Design question

Hi Ken

I offered to knock a simple db together for a pal, when he detailed the requirements it became a little more complex.

On the up side, it all seems to work okay until he wanted to include 2 levels of contact, the 2nd at the regional office. This is where I have been struggling and after originally including 2 extra tables, one for the 2nd location and another for the 2nd level of contact it became so complex that I scrapped that idea and went back to my original structure with a couple of extra fields to designate what type of location and which level of contact related to which site. This seems to work okay.

The sub forms are a nuisance, but they do currently work. My problem is my lack of experience. I spent all yesterday trying so hard to resolve the requery issue that I completely missed that I should have been requerying the other combo box and not the form or the combo where I selected the option from originally.

I was looking throught the archives and came across the function key solution and when I use F9 it updates the cbo box exactly as I want it do. How ever I can't search for info on F9 as the search criteria is too short, hence my new posting this morning.

Thanks for keeping in touch.
