Developer Edition WANTED

Hello,

Wondering if anyone can help.

I am after Microsoft Access Developer. I don't need IT, I need the license that comes with it, to send the runtime around royalty free.

I will be distributing a access 2000 database, does it matter how old the version of developer I get is?

I am after is as cheaply as humanly possible! It is a school project, that I hope can earn me a couple of quid!

Thanks :)

Could I be right in thinking that you don't need any developer tools or anything if you have Microsoft Access 2003?

I have full copies of Access 97, 2000, and 2003. Would one of those allow me to legally send the runtime around?

NO, you need the developer's edition for A2K specifically. No older edition will suffice. I don't know if a newer one would work ok.

OK then - do you know of somewhere I can get it?

It is extortionately expensive, and I only want that tiny little bit of it...it is so annoying. I don't need the software, just that license.

As I say, I have access 2003, so having to fork out £400 for access 2000 is almost criminal!

Any ideas?

Alternatively, is what I have heard true about the runtime version being available freely to people? Could I just point someone in the direction of it?

If you are distributing an Access 2000 database then you need the 2000 developers edition, which is a lot cheaper than purchasing access for each PC you intend to run your database on. Maybe the cost of your db could include a percentage of the cost of the developers edition.

If you have access 2003 why do you want to distribute it in access 2K? why not access XP or 2003?

Also, we all know that MS software is expensive but there are other alternatives. If you wish do distribute software that you are charging for what difference does it make. The cost of producing your app is part of the cost of sale. If people want it then they will pay for it. Don't be a skinflint. Go and buy it.

If it was for a good cause I may have considered donating a copy that I know longer use but why should I or anyone else? We have had to pay for it.

Also this request is very dubious because, unless someone is willing to transfer the software licence to you then what you appear to be asking is technically illegal in most countries.

If your intention is to doge licence fees etc, use one of the hacking sites and take the risks that go with it but don't ask others to, possibly, unintentionally get involved.

Another point.

If this is a school project as you claim that means you are a student and get all your MS software cheaper than the rest of us anyway.

So you are already being subsidised by the rest of us.

Report to your head master immediately.

Yes, this is a school project, yes i am a student, but what was the last version of Access Developer you saw with an academic license???

I agree with your comments about distributing it in 2003 format. If I were to purchase the "Visual Studio Tools for Office 2003 (Developer)", and created a runtime of my database that I had converted to 2003.

Would a user who had access 2000 be able to install the runtime, access my database, and still use 2000 with no problems?

Thanks! I am kinda willing to pay the £400 for the tools, but I need to know it is all going to work before I do.

I am not trying to get ANYONE in trouble at all! I just wondered if anyone had an old version they wouldn't mind selling cheaper, if they had bought a newer one. :)

Thanks for your input so far....

Your school should be able to get it under their academic licence.

My local college has it. If you have problems I'll go ask them for you and find out how they obtained it next time I'm there.

But even if they won't cut the price of that for academic use, (which I doubt), you still pay less for all your other MS software so why Gripe? I've given Bill Gates thousands of pounds for the privilege of using his software and every year he still wants more. Wish I could get a bit off for length of service let alone academia.

I am sorry you feel that way. I do understand, I have chucked enough money at microsoft myself. I may get it reduced being a student, but it is all relative, I probably earn a lot less than you too! ;)

I THINK i may have found an academic license for it, I will enquire with microsoft to check i can still use the runtime, but if I can, that will be sorted.

Thank you :)

I had to buy the Visual Studio tools for Office 2003 in the end. At £400, it was a lot of money - I guess I am just gonna have to pray I sell a lot of my database!
