I want to create a report to display the results of a marathon. I have all the tables, forms and queries set. Now I want to create a report that displays only the top 5 runners for each category (there are 11 Categories (Female, Male)), another one that display the first 6 runners this is for the local Category, and the first 10 runners for the open Category. The first report (top 5 runners) the prizes are $75.00, $60.00, $40.00, $30.00, $25.00. How do I code this in the report? The other reports are the same principle so viewing an example with the top 5 five, I'll figure how to do the rest. THANK YOU.

Open the query that runs your report in design view.

On the top row, there should be box that says "All". You can set this box to any number you wish, in your case 5.

If you have a report that gives you all the results, you may have to create a new Query just for your top 5 report.

The problem is that I have all the 22 categories in one single report (11 Female and 11 Male)... selecting 5 on the query as you proposed won't display the correct info... only 5 records across all the categories and not 5 records per category.... anyway thank you for answering (I didn't know about that, will consider it if the problem come across in the future ;) )

Instead of using all on the one report, use subreports.

Thanks Bob
what about this situation?

Another problem I am having is that there won't be two prizes for one person, but there is a Local Category additional to the 22 Categories and the open Category. Open category will pay only for the first 10 so this 10 runners are easy to isolate because on the queries for the other categories on the Placement field I use >10 on the criteria. But I can not use this on the local category because I don't know the placement for the other runners... how do I code this so if a Runner is in two categories only pay the higher amount prize and then show me another runner on the other category where this runner were (I mean move up the category this guy or girl was).

oooooooooohhhhhhhh you just made my brain hurt. Without being able to sit down and really think hard on this one, I don't think I'll be able to help with that problem as I don't have enough time at the moment to dwell on it. I am sorry that I can't be more help right now and I don't envy you trying to solve this one.

Thanks Bob...I understand..anyway when you have time and want to brainstorm consider this one. ;)
