Displaying a portion of a field on a report

When i created my database i used the first and last name in just one field called "Name". ( I know I probably should have separated them into "last" and "first"). Now on one of my reports I want to display only the last name. Is there anyway I can have just the last name displayed and not the first or would i have to go back into the table, create two columns and separate them?

Is there a separator that splits the Name?
For example are all the names entered as: John Smith?
Or are they entered as: JohnSmith?
