Hello,

I'm trying to create dynamic combo boxes in my form. I have a table labeled College which holds the names of all of the Colleges at a University and then I have another table labeled Department which holds all of the Departments and subsequent colleges to those departments. I created a query that pulls from the Department table both the collegename and the deparment name. The criteria for the collegename is [Forms]![Courses]![College].

There is a from labeled courses in which an individual will add courses and then add the college and department. Right now when you select a college and select a department the two combo boxes are acting as independent combo boxes.

I need help determining how to make it so once you select a college it limits the choices of departments based on the departments that are related to that college.

Help! :confused:

Thanks so much!

I was able to requery and when I choose make a decision in my first combo box it fills my second correctly, i.e. when I choose a College it filters the Departments appropriately. However now I have run into a separate issue. The second combo box is filled correctly but I am unable to choose between the values in that combo box. The first value is the only value I can select...

Is the combo locked? What is its control source? Can you post the db here?

It's because all the selections have the same value in the bound column. I would expect that column to be the department ID. Try changing your query to:

SELECT Department.ID, Department.DepartmentName
FROM Department
WHERE (((Department.CollegeName)=[Forms]![Courses]![Collegecombo]));
