Dynamic RecordSource

It does actaully change the records source but when you go to design view it diplays the records source as blank.

Thats where I was going wrong!!

lol,

It won't retain the RecordSource after the form is closed. You have saved the form without a RecordSource and that is how it is. Just because you change it during runtime doesn't mean it will save as an explicit RecordSource for a form is a design matter.
