I created a database back in 2009 and inserted all the patients from 2008 who passed away in the Hospital. Before I inserted all the patients details I had a blank copy of the database which I used to tweek and modify. I then started to use the new database in 2009 (I know this sounds like an Arm about face way to do this).
Anyway cut the rubbish I now have two databases 2008 and 2009 which I would like to merge together. Here lies the problem some of the 2008 entries have the same "Primary Key" number as the ones from 2009. Is there a way to copy and past the 2008 records into the 2009 table?

P.S. Am I thinking too much like an Excel boy?

You do not copy and paste data into access you import, and yes you are going to have conflicts. However you could use union queries to stack the tow table on top of each other.

LOL why split it in the first place?

The way to do this is to add (to one of the databases) an additional column, Old Key.
Use that column to store your old key while migrating and find the new key, which you will store everywhere you need it to.

Once migration is complete you can either leave the old key column for future simular issues or historic completeness, or you can delete it. I would advice you to keep it atleast for some weeks to be able to 'fix' any issue you might find have happened during migration.

Good luck !
