Hi,

I am exporting a Txt file with the following command:
DoCmd.TransferText acExportFixed "MySpecsName",etc...
It is working fine.

But how can I edit the "MyspecsName" specifications. I can't find it anywhere. Not in saved exports, not in macros nowhere.

Thanks for help

Daniel

the first time, save the export manually

as you do this, there is a button called advanced, and in there you can design/manage export specs

Thanks for your reply but:

I have exported it manually but where can I find the "design/manage export specs?". In "saved exports", I can only edit the name and there is no other button

when you try to export it, pick text files as the save type. (ie csv file). You can only do it with a text file - saving it as excel eg, just does that without further prompts

Then you will get a exort text wizard (select column delimiter) page. On this at the bottom is the advanced button, which takes you to the file specs

This is where I have a problem. When I am exporting a file, as for example a .Txt file , I have the first message box with " select the destination for the data you want to export". I click "ok" and I am receiving after a small message box with the following text : "choose the encoding for saving this file" . I have 4 possibilities : Windows (default), Ms-Dos, Unicode, Unicode(Utf-8).

and that's it.

I don't have any other possibilities.

which version of Access are you using. I was using A97, anddidnt get quite those messages. I also tried A2002XP, and didnt get those messages either. Which menu option sequence are you using

the menu option should be

file .. saveas/export in A97
file .. export in A2002

hard to be precise, but
you should select type txt (csv etc)
not rich text format

if you are in the right place, then it may be that you need to reinstall access to get all the other filters installed, since they arent all installed by default

I am using access 2007 but I have found a solution: I can change the specifications when I am importing a Txt file. (I have there the "advanced tab"

Btw thanks for your help

Daniel

you should get to see the same thing when you export the file, but anyway the import/export files are the same (interchangeable), so you should be able to build what you need.

Good Luck
