When I attempt to install Access 97, I get this error message:

Autoexec.bat file is too long for setup to modify. Must edit Autoexec.bat file manually to add the following to PATH statement
C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~5

What does this mean and how can I correct it?

FYI, I uninstalled Office 2000 right before I tried to install Access 97, if that helps any.

Dugantrain,

I've never heard of this error before.

Apparently what has happened is that the Access Installer
is not happy with your Autoexec.Bat file.

This file goes back to the old DOS days when Config.Sys and
Autoexec.Bat determined the personality of your computer.
When many software programs are installed the alter the
PATH statement in your autoexec. The path statement
tells the OS where to look when you type in a command.

The C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~5 is really DOS-speak for
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office which is where
Access lives.

I would make a backup copy of this file, make sure I really did
make a backup copy, then maybe even have someone check.
Then I'd delete it and re-install Access.

It would be interesting to see what Access writes, because on
my machine it wrote nothing (Access 2000).

Maybe someone here has seen this.

good luck,
Wayne
