Error on compacting database

I have my database set to compact on close. Sometimes Access gives me an error saying it could not compact the database.

I have enough free space and no one else has the db opened. What could be happening?

Any ideas?

P.S.: I'm using Access 2000

I was the only one using the database at that time.

If your drive M is on a server, do you have the correct network permissions to delete files? You should have add, modify and delete permissions for the folder that the db is located in.

Yes, I do have permissions to add, delete and modify. This error occurs only once in awhile, usually I use the DB for a week without problems.

Could this be a network connection problem?
