I have a query that gives me top stolen vehicles (descending order). I would like to add a field that will give the numerical numbers. For example

HondaCivic 63
HondaAccord 26
JeepCherokee 25

I would like my query to look like this with a new field

1 HondaCivic 63
2 HondaAccord 26
3 JeepCherokee 25

If I get any new vehicles stolen I would like #4 and so on to show up.

Thanks,

Michael

you say that you want this in a query, but you would set up the field in the table. Can you tell me about your table setup? the 1, 2, 3 is that an autonumber, or is that it's rank as a stolen car?

Please tell us all fields in your table(s) and their format, what you primary key is, etc. Then we might hammer this out real quick. :D

Sorry,

I would like to have it as a rank.

My field names are Car Make and TotalTheft from tblStolen

Thanks,

Michael

Rank

I don't think you need another field in the table or query.

I had a similar situation and worked it out like this.
On the report I had the records sorted the way I want.
(in your case that would be TotalTheft, descending)

I added an unbound number field, in front of the first field.
Set it to standard, set controlsource to: =1
and Running Sum: Over Group.
That's it.

It perfectly shows the ranking starting at 1.

Hopefully this will work for you too.
