Has anyone else noticed that after compacting & repairing a shared backend database file on Windows XP, the file becomes inaccessible to client users. The folder it is in still shows as shared with full user permissions, but the backend file cannot be accessed remotely. The only way I have gotten around it is to copy the backend and paste into a new folder, and share that folder, then it's fine until I C&R again. This only happens on Windows XP, not with Windows 2000. Any insight into this.
Thanks

I had a client with that same issue. They would Compact and repair the database and for some reason the file would lose the Inherited permissions that it was given from the folder it was located inside of. Not sure it that is exactly what you are seeing. My memory was that when they assigned the permissions directly to the file and saved them that way the would stick (pretty odd if you ask me).

As best as I can remember, I think when Access compacts and repairs it creates a new copy of the file and deletes the original. So I think Gumby is on to something. Study and experiment with the file and folder permissions and I would guess a logical (and annoying) answer will emerge.
