I am new here and new to Access so please don't judge my ignorance to harshly...I am using Access 2010 and have a database that I am trying to set up to track employee inefficiencies in an assembly plant.

I have a table that has each tool that we produce. That table is linked via lookup to another table that lets you know what grouping that tool belongs to. (We make pneumatic nail guns) If it is a framing gun, staple gun, coil tool, etc.

I then have a query that calculates the targeted tools per hour that need to be assembled to make money.

What I would like to do on a form is: 1st-Select the grouping - Then when the grouping is selected I only want the tools that fall under that grouping to be allowed to be selected, and then when the tool is selected from that list I want the targeted tools per hour to be displayed for the group/tool selected.

I am guessing this is not a big task, but I am not sure the correct way of doing this...any help would be greatly appreciated

Okay...I have a form named frmEfficiencies, from tblEfficiencies that has two columns [Line] and [Tool]

for the tool field on the form, under property sheet, data, row source, I have both the [Line] and [Tool] fields selected

[Tool] is first and selected to show, [Line] is second and selected not to show with the line below in the criteria...I do not know what the "cbo" or the "1" before and after the line mean, but that was in the sample that you directed me to.

[Forms]![frmEfficiencies]![cboLine1]

When I go to my form now, it will not give me anything from the combo box to choose from

Once again...I am new and fairly ignorant to the workings so please explain if you can what I am doing wrong

Thanks for any and all help

Can you post the db here?

I think that I have it attached...thanks again for any and all help:banghead:

Wouldn't the selections come from tblToolItemMaster? See if this is what you wanted.

Thanks Paul! This was exactly what I was looking for

Sorry to restart this thread, but I have been trying to take what I am learning and bring that forward to get the "target" amount to work also. Right now when I select the "line" only the "tool(s)" made on that line appear (thanks to paul) but when I try to get the associated "target" to pop up (relates back to the "tool")

The target amount is calculated in a query from two fields in a table. I tried to just add that query field into a table lookup (that just gave a dropdown). What I thought would work was just adding:
([Tables]![tblToolItemMaster]![LaborCost])/([Tables]![tblToolItemMaster]![LaborInTool]) as the control source of the box on the form.

The calculation is just the labor divided by cost of labor in the tool....all i get now is #name?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated once again...sorry for dragging the tread on:banghead:

Thanks...it took me a little playing to get it right, but all is good and i think the supervisor will be very happy thanks to your help :)
