Filtering a form with a combo and a click

Is there a simple way to achieve the same results that the Filter By Form icon gives - but in a way that is easier for the User to manage, please?

I have full details of how to use the Filter By Form action at the top of the form. But I can see the Users having problems.

What would be best would be a combo box that offers 20 different choices, in return for a click. Anyone any experience of this please?
