I'm trying to find duplicated numbers in a table

pretending the table has only two fields (cause they are the ones i'm interested in)

Field 1 is a number
field 2 is a text field

i need to find duplicates in the number field, but only when the text fields information doesnt match.

e.g
Field1 Field2
1 Hello
1 Goodbye
2 Hello
3 Hello
4 Hello
5 Hello
5 Hello

When I run a query i need to have returned

1 Hello
1 Goodbye

but NOT

1 Hello
1 Goodbye
5 Hello
5 Hello

can anyone help :-)???

cheers

I hesitate to question the previous reply, as I don't have the wealth of knowledge that the author has, but that solution didn't work for me.

I ran a query with the "Unique values" property set first. That weeded out all the exact duplicates. Then I based a second query on the first, using the Duplicates wizard targeted on the Number field.

That worked for me, though I don't claim that it is the best or the only way to do it.

Hi

i need back the

1 Hello
1 Goodbye

I'm checking for duplicate figures but across different files

the first field holds an account number and the second holds the filename, so I need to only find duplicates across different filenames.
I need to weed out duplicates that are in the same file, while keeping the duplicates across different filenames.

Hope that helps.

thanks

In that case, my solution works. But perhaps Mr Hartmann will have a neater solution?
