Flexible search criteria

I am trying to set up flexible dynamic search facility. User can enter one of four search fields (name, phone, email, postcode). I am catching the query using a criteria like

[Forms]![frmContactMatch]![txtPostcode]

This works fine for perfect matches but client now wants to be able to search on, for instance, first part of postcode. Seems quite reaonable but I cannot quite get it.
I have tried Like

" * & [Forms]![frmContactMatch]![txtPostcode] & *"

but that does not work. Any ideas?
