good evening

iam after alittle help. i have made a holiday planner for work, where you input an X for a holiday and the cell turns red.
what i need to do it make another box outside the sheet with total amount of days allocated for leave and when an X is entered say for April the 5th to the 8th 3 days leave it knocks it of the total allocated in the other box ?? hope this makes sence it does to me sat here but actually typing it it doesnt. eg say C16 TO AM61 IF I WAS TO ENTER AN X IN ANY OF THOSE BOXES THERE WILL BE A BOX IN SAY AC11 WITH 25DAYS LEAVE TO START WITH THEN REDUCE EVERY TIME A HOLIDAY IS BOOKED. hanks for any replies if i do get any if i get the answer i will buy you a pint :-)

Howdy. Can you post a sample, with the solution filled in that you would expect (maybe two worksheets, with two different samples).

thanks for yor reply i have attached a zip file copied into word but i have it saved in excel, i want the holiday entitlement to reduce every time a holiday is entered on the spread sheet . i have left an example on the sheet with six days aloccated just wondering how you add the information to the spreadsheet to count down the days holiday each time one is booked.

It would help if you had zipped a copy of your excel worksheet.

Something on the lines of the below should work - you will need to put the actual cell references in

=cell with total entitlement-Countif(range of cells that can have an L in them,"L")

thanks for the reply that works great the countif command, is there an opposite that reduces the number also?? when you enter data.

Sorry - don't understand what you want.

The formula provided gives you the remaining days of leave - what do you want to do?
