Full Page of Details records creates extra Report Page

Dear Members, I need some help.

I have a Report with Page Headers, Detail and Page Footer.
When the Details are filled with a full page of 10 records, the Report creates a second Page instead of printing just 1 page, with the Footer totals at the bottom.

If the Detail has 9 records, 1 page prints, with the footer totals at the bottom, which is correct.
If the Detail has 11 records, 2 pages print, page 1 prints the Details 10 records and I have a literal in the Footer that states ‘Continued on next Page’ and then the second page with 1 Detail record prints and the footer totals print at the bottom of that page, which is correct.

I have noticed that when 10 records are to be printed, which is 1 full page, the Me.Pages value, in the On format Event, is 2, when the value should be 1. That is why I’m not getting the Footer totals on the first page and the report is going to a 2nd page, which ends up blank except of the Report Header and the 'Continued on next Page'. I’m not able to change Access 2007 Me.Pages system value, nor should I have to.

One strange thing is that if I change the spacing in the Details or in any one of the Headers, the problem for 10 records goes away, because the Report will have 8 or 9 records on the first page and 1 or 2 records on the second page. Then the second page has the proper Footer. I don’t think that is a good solution; because it does not allow me to Format the Report properly and I think the problem could happen with a different amount of Detail records.

If anyone has any idea on how to resolve this, please let me know!
Thank you in advance for your time.

Have you tried something simple like slightly adjusting the page margins?

Also in the Detail section, check the properties for:
Can Grow / Keep Together / Force New Page

Thanks for responding.
Yes, I have checked and moved the Page margins and it did not make a difference.

Can Grow is set to NO.
Keep Together is set to Yes.
Force New Page is set to None.

All my reports do the same thing.
I just checked one which has Can Grow set to Yes and I still have the same problem.

What setting do you think I should change?

Thanks for your suggestion:
I just tried KeepTogether=No and there was no change in the results. I'm still a unnecessary second Report Page with a Header and a footer that belongs to a continuation page.

You say all the reports do the same thing which suggests there is a system setting issue?
Does this also happen with other databases?

I don't have Access 2007 but try looking in the program options

Well, I say All the Reports do the same thing, because I copied the code of the Details On format from the first report that I created, to the rest of them, because I thought is was working properly.
I don't have another Database that has a report to test, if a the Detail records are completely filled on the first page.
I'm not sure what program option to look at!

Ah why didn't you say that in the first place.
Doable the Detail on format code on one report & confirm the problem disappears.
Then reinstate it & go through line by line to identify the cause

Thank you for responding.
I'm not sure what you mean by 'Doable' when you say,
Doable the Detail on format code on one report & confirm the problem disappears.

Could you please explain!

I have been through it line by line and as of yet I have not been able to identify what the problem is. The only thing that I saw is that Me.Pages goes to 2 pages when I'm at the a Full page of records to be printed. I don't know why Me.Pages is 2, when I believe it should be 1.

Thanks again for you help.

Sorry typo due to autocorrect

It should have read disable the code temporarily to confirm that is the source of the problem

Suggest you upload the relevant bits of your database with enough data so it can be tested

Thanks for responding.

I'll go though the code to disable what I can and see what happens.

As for unloading parts of my Database, if I can't identify anything, I'll see what I can to try to upload enough objects to allow the report to run. That is not an effort I really want undertake.

OK - now you've got a typo - unload / upload !

Just one final thought which is almost certainly irrelevant but you never know.

Have you inserted a page break into your report like that shown in my screengrab?
If so, just try moving it up or down slightly and see if it fixes things

If not, I think you will either have to put up with it as it stands or make the time to upload it

Dear ridders:
Thank you so much for all your thoughts about the problem and trying to help me.

I looked at the problem and could not see anything wrong, so as you requested, I reluctantly began to create a sample Database stripped down to the bare essentials to run the report. When I went into the report, I noticed that I had a report that determines the status of whether I'm going to print a Legal size document or a Letter size document in the Reports Header.

I also noticed that it was taking up about a 1/2 inch worth of space.
So, since it was not necessary for testing, I just deleted it and the Report Header. Then I ran the Report to see how much and what data I was going to need to upload a functional Report for testing.
Well, the report ran normal. I tested it with a full complement of data and with additional records that would force and extra page and everything worked as it should.

The Report inside the Report Header and the Report Header itself was a new wrinkle that I had put in recently but never noticed the problem it created.

Now I'll go back to my original Database and see if I can shrink down the Report inside the Report Header so it doesn't take up too much space to affect the printing, as it has been.

Thank you so much for your time and patients.
