Hey all,

I learned Access and created a database last summer but haven't touched the thing myself since then. When I did it, I set up user-level security for it. Turns out the company doesn't have much use for it so I wanted to get rid of the user-level security to make things easier. Unfortunately, the book i used to learn and setup the database and security doesn't talk about how to get rid of it. Can anyone offer me any tips?

Thanks a ton in advance,
James

These are the instructions from the Microsoft security FAQ white paper. This document is MUST, MUST, MUST reading if you work with security. Download it from the MS knowledgebase.

You must have Administer permissions and/or be a member of the Admins group in the workgroup information file that the database was secured with. Grant full permissions to the Users group and the Admin user account. Put the Admin user back in the Admins group and remove the password from the Admin user. You will not be prompted for a logon ID and password once the password is removed from the Admin user. Optionally, you can also run the Security Wizard again to transfer ownership of all objects back to the Admin user, but the wizard will also remove permissions from the Users group, which you may not want.

Does anyone have a link or document number for the above?
I have searched on Microsofts support site but cannot find this document.
many thanks!

Send me a PM with an email address and I can send a zip with a couple of papers on security including the FAQ

Thanks for these responses.
I have removed security, aprt from 1 problem that I think means I am now stuffed.
I have a few queries where the owner is set to <unknown>, and I cannot change them to Admin, the only user left.
Also the Database Owner is <unknown>. Doh!
Does this mean I have to delete the queries and re-build them?
I am getting a scary feeling about this....
Any help appreciated!
Thx

Now that you have removed security, have you tried opening a new un-secured db and importing all the objects? This may fix your ownership problems.
