Good practice question

My database will be in use by about 20 users. I have heard people talk about splitting the front end and having a copy for each.

Is this good practice, what determines when to do this and how

Yes, it's a best practice.
You split the database FE/BE. Tables go in the Backend. Backend is placed on a server.
A copy of the FE is placed on each users' PC.

You should split a database as soon as you have more than one user!!!!!
