Not for everyone. As someone with past technical tours of deep-space telescopes and other facilities such as the NIST, this was really exciting news.

Many of us saw the Talking Heads on the news flash the discovery of Gravity Waves. This is a more in-depth audio interview in New York City regarding this historical event of actual detection and confirmation of perturbation of the space time fabric, the so-called gravitational waves.

It also included a brief update at the end of:
The solar observations of the Solar Minimum we are entering on this 11 year solar cycle. The Sun's 11 year cycle rides on the larger solar super cycles. And, an update on the UAE / India Space program for Mars.

The science team from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) announced confirmation using direct detection of a gravitational wave from two merging black holes 1.3 million years ago.

Mass about 3 times that of our sun was converted to gravitational waves in a fraction of a second. The peak power was estimated to be 50 times that of the whole visible universe. The source was in the Southern Hemisphere.

Gravity Detection has long been of interest to me since setting up my first Laser Interferometer in the 1970's.
A map like this one can help someone understand how sea-level is not he same everywhere from the center of the earth.

If you are interested in helping, you can run Einstein@Home on the BOINC software. BOINC is a program that distributes computational processing over the internet. There are other at home projects you can help with, but the gravity wave search project is the only one I'm familiar with.
