Hey, all! I wanted to express my appreciation for this site in that it seems to be one of the two places that I commonly find answers for my Access problems! (the other being a site that discourages anecdotal responses that can be informative, I choose not to post or reply there.)

I've been doing the database thing for some 30 years, starting out with RBase, dBase III, Foxbase, Wang PACE, and DataFlex, before being saved by SQL Server and Access. I did IT work for a major police department for nine years, left there in 2001, and was quite pleased last year to go there for lunch with a friend and run in to someone whose name I could not for the life of me remember, who told me that an Access database that I wrote 15+ years ago was still in use, untouched! Presumably they'd upgraded versions.

Currently I'm working for a school for blind and visually impaired kids: we take 'em from birth to graduating high school. I'm developing an Access/SQL Server system for helping us track kids to ensure that they are progressing as best they can, that they're getting regular eye exams, and that we can get the maximum funding that we can for them to provide them with as much service and equipment as we can do. I've almost always worked in government service so that I can help people who help people in need, this is a lot more direct and sometimes heartbreaking when you see infants in strollers who are not only blind, but frequently also have a whole constellation of other problems.

There, but for the crates of cod, go I. :)

So, currently things are progressing well. I'm hoping that the school's superintendent will let release the code on Sourceforge so any other similar organization could potentially use it, we'll see if it happens. I've been working on it for a year, and hope to get it to the internal testing level in another month or two, I still have a couple of features to finish implementing.

Holly Hippodays to all!
