I am using records of training to create a list on a licence of competencies. Trouble is when the list gets to around 6 or 7 records it expands my licence form.

I want to either group or flow, to another column, the records if it gets to many just to list vertically.

Help

For clarity as I understand it, you want the combo box to show two columns of data when the record count is over seven records?

Yeah sort of, it doesent have to be a combo box, read on..... The data is entered on a form called "operators", it includes contact details and a subform to show the training they have had.

I then need to produce a local driving licence, showing personal basic details and, just the vehicle types from the subform, which i copied, renamed "2". This was to attempt to get just 1 column (Competency type) to appear on form "licence".

It's taken me 3 weeks to get this stage, just trying to figure a way to produce a licence to give to people, inputting in an easy way for other users, eventually I will try and do a splash screen so users can not fiddle around.

Thanks for looking

From what I understand you would like to view all of the 'Competencies' on the 'Licence' form without using the scroll bar. Is this correct?

Would like to help.

Yes, if this is the only way then yes, I want all the items listed in competencies to be displayed on a form called licence. Ideally without scroll bars etc, just a box with them all in and shrunk to fitt. The "display box" on the licence can be as big as the backside of a credit card.

A bit like this

Item1 Item2 Item3
Item4 Item5 Item6
Item7 Item8 Item9

Thanks, Mert

Hi Mert,

I am working on this. Did you realize that you only have 6 competencies types and they are listed more than once on some of the licences? If you where to only list them once what you have would work. Do you really want to list them more than once?

I just quickly populated that persons record to see what would happen to the licence competency box. There will eventually be around 30 competencies to choose from, with no repeats on a persons lic.

So grateful, I made out I could do this easy, but it's harder than I thought

It doesent have to be a form, I just want to produce a licence for people I train whislt keeping a resonable database of that training. The licence is printed, folded and laminitaed into an ID style card.

Oh and probably the most 1 person may have on the licence would be around 15 competencies

You know sometimes the little things are what trip us up.

What I would suggest is to have 2 or 3 list boxes side by side where you now have the sub form. Have the Row Source set to queries that are the same but have them filtered down by the Competecy Type. I believe that this is a number. You could have the first 10 in the first box and the next 10 in the next box and so on. But I know of no way to do what you originally wanted in a form. It is not hard to do in a report.

Hope this helps.

The reson the db is set up as it it is, is because I making it up as I go, maybe it's over complicated for what I want. Can you tell. For example the relationshipe were replicated from an order management database

I dont know how to do what you suggest and I have tried to get the information into a report and cant do that either.....

Thanky ou very much for your time. I will try to do it anyway

There is no column option for forms but there is one for reports. Create a multi-column subreport for the courses and place it on the report that produces the license.

Ok, but I don't have a report that creates a licence . Ususllay I have been getting type mismatch errors when trying to display a report that includes "competency type" and " Operator details".....

Non the less I shall try again..with multi column, I'll give that a go

Please don't delete threads when they are solved. That removes them from the archives and others with the same problem will not find your answer.

Also, if you found the answer yourself, it would be good if you posted it.
Thanks.

Art,

I'm so sorry but I cant get it to work, I dont have a clue what I'm doing with these tags etc. I have renamed Form 2, it's now "CompList" and I have been trying to get it to work on the form "Port Op Licence".

I have tried to follow your guide and I have learnt a lot developing this. All my work is done as far as the build/look etc and a compromise on the item we are discussing now. It would be great if I/you could get this to work because I would only need 1 form for all licences. You see some trainees will have many records, but most will only have 1.

Thanks again for your help
