I want to use a heading for a lot of reports. This heading will be the company's name, address and phone number. But I don't want to store that info on a table in case someone want to use it without paying for it. This db is designed to work for different municipalities so it has to be personalized for each one, I will be installing it and entering that info. So it can not be modified after that, but as I said I don't want to store that info on a table and code a lookup on the report to fetch that info.. where I could "hide" that info and and use it on my reports?.. I don't want to edit the reports on every installation...

among many other things, i do "lock" the enterprise name, and I do put a visible name in the file. However, I run an encryption function to generate a "proof" of the correctness of the name, so that if the name is changed, the proof function gives an invalid result. it doesnt really matter that the proof function result is visible (even if the user can see it) as without knowing how you derive it , they will be unlikely to reproduce it, and are possibly unlikely to know what it is anyway

ok gemma.. and how I do that?... I'm a newbie on VBA

I might make the observation that, as a newbie to VBA and all, while you might want to protect your creation, I think you are possibly stepping into some sticky territory.

As noted by one of our other notables on the forum, if you are planning on selling this database, you'd better make sure it's bulletproof as far as being designed well, programmed well, and bug free. Users don't take it well when they pay for something that turns out to be a big headache and, from your various posts on the site, I am not sure that you're ready to do that.

That's just an observation and you can take it or leave it, but I felt I had to at least make that observation known.

Thanks bob for the observation... I've been designing and testing this db since the moment I began to work with it... three coworkers have been working on the db on every upgrade I made, entering data and testing.. I know this doesn't mean it's bug free but on the run every bug reported has been corrected and tested, there still be a lot of work to do, but as I come with an idea I ask for help and do the best with your help. So far every report matches with the ones from the bank and from other manual calculations (until we migrate completely to this db). Other company owners have seen this application running and they're very pleased with it and are asking me to sell them a copy... I talked to them and told them that it is still in development. After some more testing it will be released as an unofficial version to let them to enter data, report any bug they find on the run and make suggestions for new features. They agree on the terms, so now I have to put some security to the application in case it goes to the wrong hands. But I know this db is not yet completely finish (and it will never be, I hope so.. new feature requests on the run after an official release).

Well, good luck with it. I hope it goes very well for you. I have just recently done some national contracts and it is very gratifying to create something that people want to use.

Thanks... and I really appreciate all of your help when I get stuck (specially with vba) Excellent Forum, excellent people too... lets serve the world making applications that offer productivity to others...
