My first foray into database design and programming was dBase II, then III, then Clipper, and finally I started writing my company application in Access 2.0 on my Windows 95 machine. Then I updated it to Access 97 on a Windows 98 machine. Then I bought my current PC which is a Windows XP Pro in '02 and went from Access XP to my current Access 2003. I also have a laptop (Asus G73jh) with Access 2010, and running Windows 7 Pro.

I have come full circle, since now I am trying to convert my current Access 2003 application back to Access 97, so I can use it on the Windows 98 machine when I take calls at my work bench. :D Although I can run my application in Access 2010 on the laptop, I don't use it that way much in actual practice.

I used to think Access was terribly irritating until about 7 years ago when I set up Open Office Base in a Linux Ubuntu system using MySql. I converted my Access database to MySql. I'm now using Open Office Base 3.3 with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and MySql with the Java connector. After years of working in Linux on OO Base, I have come to realize that Access is the best thing EVER! :D However, since I have an Acer netbook that runs Ubuntu, I am still using the Open Office / MySql conversion of my Access data, which resides in the clouds of the internet, whenever I am on the road.

Welcome aboard!
