Hi, I have a database that became corrupt when a user shutdown unexpectedly. Now when i try to open the database, Access says it must repair, which seems like it works, but then when it finishes, it doesn't open the database. When I close access and then try to open the "repaired" database, it's just blank. It must be there somewhere because the file size is still 19 mg which is about right. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help!

Might try creating a new blank database, then try to import all objects from the old into the new.

Or, you may try the decompile option. Please be very careful with this - only use on a backup copy - thi sis NOT supported by MS.

See:

for more info...

HTH

thanks, i tried importing the data into a new database, but when I click import, it says that the original database is corrupt. I'll check into trying the other if I don't find something else.

sheederj,

If all else fails, when the Compact/Repair goes "belly up", it will
usually leave behind a db1.mdb file where your database resides.

If you have been repeating the operation, you'll see db2.mdb, db3.mdb,
and so forth.

A lot of times, these "temporary" databases are OK. You might want to
check this out.

Also, there is a JET database repair utility. You might want to do a
google search on that.

I don't seem to get that far even...It's not creating the db files and I tried the jet repair too and that does the same.
Thanks anyway!

Also, I tried the decompile, but it opened access and said - database is corrupt, make a backup and repair!

ARGHHHH!!!!

Same problem

I had the same problem.
Last night I stepped away from my pc for dinner, came back to shutdown and received an access error. The database shutdown abruptly. I figured I would run a compact & repair in the morning.

I attempted to recover with the suggestions above: run compact & repair, import db to new db, run the jet repair utility. All do not work.
I have the same symptoms. I open the database and there is only a blank screen. No database objects whatsoever. Yet the db is 43mb.

Now the toss-up- To pay $300 for the software utility to fix this problem or open up a backup and recode the changes I made yesterday.

Isn't MS great! They have a bug in their software which destroys a database, yet they can't provide a patch or utility to recover the database.
