how do I make it so that when I press on the little green cross button it pops up a box to type in the name or the SSN# of the person so they can search it on the other form

I think what you're talking about is a find or search button. If you highlight your form and view it as a design, click command button on your toolbox (make sure the wizard toggle is on)then click where you want this button to be. Next you will see a window asking you what kind of button you want. Select Record Navigation on the left side and Find Record on the right. click Next. choose the type of picture you want on your button. Again click Next. Finally, rename your command button to whatever you want. Preferrably something that you can remember or relates to your command button.
