Hello All:

I am new to MS Access. I was fiddling with a database file on my home computer and have locked myself out of the file! I get the message that states that I do not have permission to access... This is a personal file on my home pc and I believe that I am the administrator. Can anyone tell me how I can open the file to make the necessary changes to the security access? Any help would be appreciated. This is a .dbf file which contains all of my address and phone #'s.

Have you tried holding down a <SHIFT> key while opening the db?

RE: newbie error!

Yes, I have tried holding the <Shift?> key. I still receive the same message. I guess the main problem is as the administrator of the database, I am not able to open this file to make the necessary security adjustments. This is the primary problem, I believe.
Any suggestions?

There are several security guru's that roam these halls. Give them a day or so to catch this thread.

Try copying the DB into another folder and opening it. sometimes access crashes and leaves the db locked. Let me know if this solves your problem. If not give me more details of the error message.

Help-Newbie Error!

Hello. I did try to create a new file and move the database into this. I received an error telling me that I could not do this.
More specifically, the error states "You do not have permission to use the C:\Documents and Settings......mdb object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permission for you."

Sounds to me like you need to open your database using the /wrkgrp switch and specify the mdw file that you must have altered when you were fiddling around with the database.

Thanks for the suggestion. Could you elaborate and tell me how I might go about doing this? Thanks in advance.

Chris - are you able to open any other database files on your computer?
