Can anyone help me with this problem or point me in the right direction.

We have a access database which is used by over 100 users however if a certiain user logs in he locks access up for everyone else but if he logs in and others are logged in it is ok it only locks up if he is the only one using the database.

Does anyone have any idea what it is on his pc which is causing this???

Thank You

Sheesh, didn't even need my reading glasses for that one.

My first guess is that the problematic user has failed to join the correct workgroup AND you have failed to correctly isolate/eviscerate user Admin in the workgroup you are using. (That is explicitly an AND, not an OR!)

By default, when you install Access/Office, you get a workgroup for which you are user Admin. Even if you are logged in with a specific account name that isn't user Admin.

By default, user Admin in any .mdb file is a member of the Admins group, which usually possesses Open Exclusive permission. If your problem user is the ONLY person in the DB, he opens it exclusively. (Because he can. Remember, this IS a Bill Gates product...) If anyone else is also in when he enters, Access correctly notes that it cannot use Open Exclusive, so it uses Open Shared.

Search this forum for "Workgroup security" as a topic. You'll get beaucoup hits even from the last year.
