Help with sums

I am trying to add a number in two fields on my report in detail section in an unbound textbox called SumMin. One number (wavemin) is 65 the other field (regularmin) is 284. I cannot get it to sum up to 349...it always gives me 65284.....What am I doing wrong? Everyway I try it always ends up with the wrong number. Sometimes it sums up the entire column like at the report footer level.
Sometimes one of the fields can be 0.

Could you please help?

It's Field1+Field2. If you want the Grand Total in the Report Footer it's Sum([Field1]+[Field2])

I have tried that plus every other way I can think of...

This is what I end up with:

Regularmin=65 wavemin = 284

=([regularmin]+[wavemin]) and it gives me 65284

I have tried every way I can think of and it will only combine them not add them.

Then they're text fields and not integers, try the Val function or change the fields to numeric
