Hi to all. For reasons associated with being a Visual Foxpro fan I never really tried Access. Bu here I am now because I am trying to build an accounting system that will support my (tiny) business as an SAP Freelance consultant.

So I knew VFP and other DBASE stuff. I know SAP ABAP (uuurrrggghhh!!) and also XHTML, javaScript and PHP.

I am having fun with Access 2013 but experiencing lots of frustration of the "Why does/doesn't this or that happen, and the How do I .... ? variety.

I live in SW France in the countryside (which most of it is). This is Knights Templar country ... my village was the home of four of the masters of the order, and aloso of one of the masters of the Knights of St John. Amazing because it is tiny. Toulouse and Bordeaux are about two hours away, Paris and Barcelona are about five or six hours away. I love football, (Sunderland AFC) reading is an obsession and of course (living here) food and wine are favouries as well. But as you may guess I have a fascination with history as well.

Welcome to the forum. If you are looking for advice on your accounting software, everyone will just tell you to buy existing software. It's a common question here, with the same answer every time. I know gemma-the-husky has something of a ledger database, buy you have to private message him to get it. I would expect that it is not a full fledged accounting suite, so it may not suite your needs, though I've never seen it.

Hi. Thanks for that, it's really helpful. The reason I am wanting to do it myself is because accounting software is something that I know really well, so if I use it as my example it ought to help me to learn Access. Within the SAP world (or my Business Intelligence part of it) the big move has been towards Business Objects, and I need to understand Access which is heavily used by BO. Nevertheless I will follow up on your message
