How do I call another form

:confused:I have a form (ClientVisits form) that records the number of family members for each client that visits our food pantry.

When the composition of a clients household changes I want to be able to click on a button to call up the UpdateHousehold form to add or delete family members, using the same ClientId key, and return back to the first form to record the new family composition.

I'm not sure how to accomplish this situation.
My concerns are:
How do I pass the ClientID key to the UpdateHousehold form (called form) that I am calling from the ClientVisit form and
How do I return back from the UpdateHousehold to the same client on the ClientVisits form (calling form)

You can also use the OpenArgs portion of the OpenForm method to pass information or instructions from the calling form to the form being opened.

The OpenArgs can then be testes in the On Load event of the form being opened to determine how it should behave under different circumstances.

Thank you both for a direction for me to follow. After I study your suggestions perhaps I will be able to implement the enhancements.
One quick question is how do I then return back to the original or calling form?

Thanks so much

Jim

Normally you would just close the called form.

The sample here demonstrates how information can be passed from the calling form to the form being called via the OpenArgs. It further demonstrates how information can then be passed back from the called form to the calling form via a Public Variable.

Can anyone suggest a book that I can buy to help a beginner in VB interface with Access 2010. I feel a little lost in trying to understand some of your solutions.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The sample in my previous post has plenty of comments explaining what the various pieces of code are doing.

On the subject of books there is a little discussion on that topic here.

Thank you for all your help and most of all your patience with a rookie.
I am a volunteer at my church's Food Pantry and was asked to develop a system for them to improve the operational flow. I have never used Access to program before.
I am now retired and for many years I was a consultant on AS/400 systems using the RPG programming language.

Many thanks for your time. It is really appreciated.
