I am currently creating a database for a company which hires our and rents suits.
how do i:
make a booking form grey out boxes, so when a product is selected, only then can size and colour be edited

If you set the Enabled property of a control to False it will "grey out".

What RuralGuy said is true, so in the properties of the size and color controls set enabled to false.

Then on afterupdate event of the product control do the following in code:

me.color.enabled=true
me.size.enabled=true
