How long does it take to create an mde

I am trying to create an mde file. I have read lots of threads that suggest ensuring that your code compiles before beginning which I have done, I have also "compacted and repaired" my mdb file but my P4, 3GHz machine has been trying to create an mde file for over an hour. The mdb file it is working with is 13Mb. Is this normal or should I end the Application - Task Manager says it is not responding.

For anyone interested - I rebooted and it worked.
