Have a report which I need to 'auto add' a sequrence to grouping and subgrouping, Just like bullets and numbering in MSWORD. Can this be done in MS Access Report please ?

So the numbering is

1 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
1.1 xxxxxxx
1.2 xxxxxxxxxx
1.3 xxxxxxxxxxxxx
1.4 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

2 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
2.1 xxxxxxxxxx
2.2 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

3 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
3.1 xxxxxxxxxxxx
3.2 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
3.3 xxxxxxxxxxxxx
etc

Thanks in advance

not really is the simple answer
unless you have set up your table structure in such a manner
where you can identify whats 1 is and its children i.e 1.1 , 1.2

, Personally - i would do a dump into word for this , its easier in the long run..

although a sort would give you a list starting at 1, so if you allow your numbering to have 1 and decimals of 1 then it might work - but i presume you would want something like

1 title blah.....
[space]1.1 xyzvccxcvxcvxcv
(space)2.1 dsdfsdfsdfsdsdfsdf

indented then you are into some fancy coding probably in your report

and thinking out loud here I would have soem kinda of field that would include say 5-10 spaces if the number was NOT whole, and no spaces if it was

do you know how many numberings you are gonna need .

thinking out load again - possible have two number systems one for your main bullet point and one for the sub point linked to your main point.

- easier done in word ...

Hi there,

Thank you for taking an interest in my post.

I know it is not easy but my boss doesn't think so but there is no point to argue.

No, I have no idea how long the number will be.

As a matter of fact, I have been thinking about achieving it another way but that is not easy either but I do have a crumpsy way to do if needed be. Unless someone would show me another easier way.

If I would have the Level1 on a form and user would drag and drop the sequence that would be great but I doubt there is a easy way to do it. Otherwise my crumpsy way is list the top levels title in a form, user select each one in turn for the sequence which wants to be listed. Then trigger a command which will put the items in another table then when every single one is done, put those item in another table. The thing is I am not sure how to create another table in VB

there may be an alternative -- what version of access are you using .

In 07 its meant to allow limited formating within a memo field (It says you can in previous versions - but I haven't been able to do it)

Then you can use a clever append funtion .

My idea is as follwos
headings (i.e1 , 2) would be appended into a memo field from a text box on a contious form layout
then your 1.1 would be added in the form as another memo field on your table and form , with a smart bit of coding that would copy the PK from the table and manual assign 1 through however many your need
so you table(so would look like -

title table
PK-autonumber
FK -main recordreference
textfield (or memo)

bullet table
PK
FK (being the PK above)
listordernumber 1-100
Memo

i think that might do it - (Mind you its late and I have had a few beers..)

now its a case of tie these together

D'oh - a realtive simple way

have on entry form
Heading number
Heading Text(memo)

Bulletpointnumber
BulletpointText(memo)

now have append buttonone for heading and one for bulletpoints
have these appendi into a memo field - you will need to mess around with the layout of the bulletpoints as it will not do any sort of fancy indenting but you could get it to add a few spaces atthe front to get :-

1 dogs dinner
(space, space, space) chum

but it would wrap around a paragraph so you would end up with
1 d0gs dinner

{space, space} chum, is made of kangeroo bollocks and oter bits of grissle and offcuts that don't make it into sausages

as you can see the offcuts would not be indeneted ...(unless some clear spark outthere can do a bit of Vb coding - it would involve checking how long your text string is and messing about with it ) as i said i can think of long ways round this but in the end i would go the word route on a mail merge fuction
