how to fix WinXP 1 minute boot lag

WinXP SP2, it's experiencing a boot lag that is 1 minute long.

The boot lag occurs when I see Logon screen "Loading your personal settings"

The next thing I see is my desktop wallpaper, it just sits there for ~1 minute.

Then the desktop icons appears and tray applications are loaded.

To fix the lag I tried.

Tuneup utilities registry fix and defrag,
Uniblue Registry booster 2 fix and defrag,
Hard drive defrag.

Event viewer no system or application errors.

How can I fix this lag?

After reading on another forum that I need to create another user account to test if my own is currupt.

I created another user account and rebooted my pc. I clicked on the new user account and login was instant. Then I rebooted again and clicked my user acount the login was working ok too

Then I used the control userpasswords2 command to make autologin work again.
I selected my account and what do you think - The login problem is back.

I used Bootvis to try check where the problem is.

I attached my BIN file could somebody with knowledge please help me.

If you have a lot of icons on your desktop and a slow graphics adapter, this can happen.

If you have a lot of files (not shortcuts) on your desktop this can happen. Same with folders (not shortcuts) on the desktop with a lot of files in them.

Remove all files from the desktop and put them somewhere with a link from the desktop. If that doesn't work, remove as many links on your desktop as feasible or try a better graphics card.

Has this lag got gradually worse or have you installed a new program recently ?

Well my lag problem started a few months back and I don't remember any exact changes I made.

I do have many icons and files on desktop
But my GFX cart Nvidia FX5700 should be able to handle it no?

I now disabled the auto login and click my name icon and enter password manually. No lag. So why windows cares if I click the icon myself or use auto login?

This problem should be constant if registry or hardware is the curlpit?

The graphics card will handle painting all the icons but it won't handle processing all the files on your desktop. You should never store data or files on your desktop. The bigger the files, the slower bootups will be.

doing some "manual" tweaks on run>msconfig< helps too. also, in your bios, there's usually an option to disable logos and all that junk - that shaves off a few seconds as well.
