Access 2010 - In datasheet view, some of my yes/no fields display according to the format set in design view (yes/no, true/false, etc., or -1/0 if no format specified). But a few fields that I have added since originally creating the table show up as check boxes.

I cannot find any discussion of how to force the checkbox display or even figure out where that is specified. This same behavior carries over to DS forms as well.

How can I specify a checkbox display style instead of Yes/No etc?

Where does the checkbox in question get its data from?

That is, is this checkbox bound to a field in a table?

The checkboxes are new yes/no fields that I have added recently.

I am building a new app around old FileMakerPro data that were held in separate files for each year. As I dig further back, I find I'm having to add new fields. The newer yes/no fields were added in table design view, same as the original ones - they just display totally differently! Both in table view and a DS form.

For anybody who may encounter a similar dilemma, here's how I solved this issue - the painful, tedious, crude way!

I created new yes/no fields (which popped up in the standard checkbox style automatically) with very slightly different names than the originals; copied data from the original yes/no field (that would not display as anything but -1/0, yes/no, on/off, or true/false); pasted 'data only' into the new field; deleted the old field; and re-named the new field to the original field's name so all reports and forms still work.

After much Googling to find an answer, I did try Bing and (damn Microsoft!) did find one old thread that seemed to suggest this field behavior may somehow be related to importing data from Microsoft Excel, which is how my original table got populated.

Thanks for posting your solution.
