Hi Forum, Converted 2000 to 2010 and resolved most issues except a little stuck on the Users issue.

In 2000 we have mdw. This works in 2010 if you use the mdb format but won't work when converted to accdb.

With mdw we have a table of Users and the group they belong to and this is referenced when opening the databse.

Through the database, some activities refer to the logged on user to allow buttons to be available and or know the user name for including in reports etc.

How does 2010 handle the login process and user name process ??

I have just rec'd Access 2010 Programmer's Reference by Henning, Cooper, Griffith and Dennison. 1,230 pages and I am sure the answer is in here somewhere...
Appreciate a Heads Up on what to look for as most reference appears to discuss how mdw will work if using mdb format but not a clear path to follow to change from mdw to the 2010 solution.

Trust the above makes sence.

Regards,
Bill

If you wish to use the accdb format, you need to create your own table of users and user groups.
Build a login form.
When a user logs in, grab their user id and their user group and stick these on an always open but hidden form.
Then for all your forms that need to know the user's group when they open, they can check on that hidden form for the user's group.

Here's a link to a sample database
