Hi

I need to know how to increment the autonumber (Record Number) after that some fields were filled?

Thanks

You don't need to think about that at all. The purpose of autonumber, is to either "incrementally" or random, provide new numbers for new records. And, except for some bugs, it does that quite good.

I put incrementally in quotes, because the nature of the Autonumber, is that you will get gaps when a record you've started, is canceled, and lager, when you delete records.

If you feel the need to alter seed or starting number of the autonumber "manually", then autonumber is probably not what you need, as the general sencus on the topic, is that an autonumber is usable as primary key, but one shouldn't expose them to the user (or was it the other way around - or both ;) )

I'm with Roy but perhaps even stronger. You NEVER touch an autonumber field as anything other than a foreign key in another table. If you have to tweak an autonumber it categorically and absolutely should not have been an autonumber in the first place. If you are using the autonumber as something visible to another person, you are probably mis-using it.

I am enough of a pragmatist to make a limited-case exception on the "making autonumbers visible" restriction. You can use the autonumber as a primary identifier for something that is published (printed, displayed) IF AND ONLY IF you can stand to have the identifier have gaps within its possible range. If the identifier must have ANY OTHER ATTRIBUTES than LONG INTEGER and UNIQUE then you need something other than an autonumber for such a field.

So how to do that?

 So do you have any idea how to program the variant like autonumber (his data type is integer)?

Thanks
