I would like to setup a mutiple user Access environment. Before I was using a stand alone access 2000 to work for a invocing system. However, recently, my colleagues would like to use the system in different office room one for input transaction and the other for input unit price. As such, I would like to know what Access setup, configuration, or even different Access verion I have to prepared to achieve this goal. In my office, I got simple network switch to access different network negibour harddisk. Is hardware enough for the mutiple user access setup??

Thanks a lot!!

Thanks Bob! Do I need to buy another Access version?? Or there only got one kind of Access for both single and mutiple purpose?? Thanks!!

No different version is required for using with a split database and multi-user configuration. The same version works for all purposes.

Larson, just want to know the article you mentioned was based on which Access version. In fact, the invoicing system is written in 2000 version. But right now, when I open a 2007 access version, I could not find the Database Splitter option under database utilities!! Any idea?? Thanks!!

Ignore the use of the Database split utility. Use these instructions to do it manually (be sure to read carefully because there are two sets of instructions - one for versions 2003 and earlier and one for 2007 and later).

One more information for my system. Nowadays, the application is installed in Drive C: whereas the database part is in Drive D;. I have used the link function to link between the application and database. Is this the same way the article is talking about. It seems not!! In fact, I also couldn't locate the linked table manager in the Access 2007!! Thanks!!

Oh! I just receive your reply before my last mail! Do you know 2000 also got this kind of splitter and linked table manager function!? Thanks!!

larson, I have another question....Just want to know after creating the linkage between the applcation and database. Is that the application can be copied to other PC and when running the application from other PC, the linked function still can work?? Cause I don't figure out how/why the application from other PCs can access the one database without any IP address or PC idenfiication to identify the database location. Thanks!!

The Backend must be put on a sharedDrive/folder which all computers can see. So your d:\Somefolder\Backend.mdb can only be used if it's shared on your network

Ok! Provided that I got a sharedrive, is that I have to link again for any PCs' front end application to that drive which is not the original front end splitted by the utilitiy?? Thanks!!
