Hi,

I'm a newbie to Access, and I was wondering how to use the calculations data type. When I select it, a little box pops up and I have no idea how to use it.

For example, I want my 'Sub Total' field to be the result of my 'Quantity' field x 'Unit Cost'.

Then I later want a more difficult equation, like taking 5% off of the Subtotal as a discount for exclusive customers, so I want to find how much 5% of the subtotal is, then subtract this amount from the subtotal and display this in the 'After Discount' field.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! :)

If you are a newbie to Access then you can just as well discover the pretty extensive help facilities in Access. Press F1 when you are somewhere of interest. If it doesn't help then search in Help. Also, there's always google that digs up relevant info from microsoft and others.

Thanks. I found this one:
allenbrowne.com/casu-14.htm
and
addictivetips.com/microsoft-office/using-expression-builder-in-access-2010/

I didn't even know the equations are called 'expressions' until just now. That would have helped ages ago.
