I am trying to sell a db that is for a single user and not split. What do you think?

Thanks for making that available. I shall take a look at it this week end when I have more time.
Bob, Thanks for the warning. I already thought of that and I will remove now that it has been distributed.

I'm glad that Bob got it quickly.

Thanks for your concern.

I've just noticed the post that Bob Larson made, so I have removed the link to your SkyDrive that I had in my last post. I think it would be wise to remove it from your post as well.

Your next venture might be to now have the application re-written to a web-based solution. You could have an SAS solution that just allows users who want to use the app subscribe - charge a monthly fee for usage, etc. - takes out the issue of installation and versioning issues. Just a thought! :)

Hey AccessMSSSQL,

I like that thought, but re-writing the app to web based version? I don'tknow if I could do that?

Thanks,

Rob

I did remove the link and I also deleted the file from Skydrive.

Thanks for downloading that quickly.

While you are here, I have instructions for the email I would send a customer just after purchase with the download instructions et al.
What do you think of this?

Downloading and Using the Application Database and Back End Database
 1. Download and Save the Zipped Folder from the Above Link.
 2. Find the zipped folder on your computer and unzip the folder.
 3. You will have 4 files. 2 Databases, 1 EULA text file and 1 Help File.
 4. The larger database file is the Application db. The smaller database file is the Back End db.....it will have the letters _be in the file name. The back end db is where your data gets stored. You will not be using this file. Just leave it where it is or relocate it (if desired) if you have multiple users. Each user will only require the Application db installed on their computer.
 5. Read the Help file if entering Historical Data, before you start using the application.
 6. Double click the Application db when you are ready to start using the database app. This is the larger file. Approximate 4800 kb. My Company Information should be the first Form you Open.
If you think this sounds right?

Thanks,

Rob

Yeah, I know. It would be some work to do but now that you have the infrastructure of the system down and it works (15 years - I would expect it should work flawlessly!). It would be easy to translate it to an ASP.NET / SQL Server based website - if you know how to do it.

Unforunately, I don't know how to do that.

Thanks...I can keep it in mind.

Bob,

I believe the db from Skydrive was split and you have the FE. I didn't put the BE file on there, so you should get an error because of the tablelinker code. I believe it should still work for you? Let me know otherwise.

Thanks,

Rob,
Thanks for posting the information I requested....Like I said before, I'm interested in selling a db I'm working on...I just don't know the caveats just yet...licensing and what not...

What do you mean on your website by "Open source" and "non-Open Source"? I thought that open source was equivalent to free-ware?

Thanks,
Gary
