I listen or watch podcasts, sermons, uplifting music and audiobooks. Nowadays I work out daily at the gym, only 32 min of actual exercising but the whole affair takes at least an hour out. Trimming bushes, spraying the weeds, walking in city parks with my wife, and endless small household tasks both mundane (housework) and more interesting (handyman stuff). Talking to my college-age son & daughter about the latest challenges, dramas etc (OK not really talking, mostly just listening). Writing letters and cards, calling my parents, reading the news. Pausing throughout the day to pray or work on my bible memorization hobby I started a couple months ago....which 2 things help my well-being immensely.
I emphasize serenity in my life. Most nights I'm laying down for at least 9 hours, if not asleep the whole time. I don't fill every minute of my waking hours with commitments and engagements - only accepting what I can do and still have quiet time and family time. I don't work more than approximately 40-ish hours a week (unless it's to add a "side project", which happens less than it used to).
Sleep, peace & exercise are 3 big ingredients for me. I actually would rank sleep #1 for well-being. Exercise comes next, only because peace now comes automatically from everything else.
This formula works well for both my sanity and to make what I DO do more meaningful and intense/productive - whether for self, family or others.
