I can't ssem to get ie to go to a regular home page when it opens -

No matter what I set the home page to it always goes here:

http://runonce.msn.com/runonce2.aspx

Any ideas???

Have you tried deleting that Registry entry?

Even better, don't use IE at all.

Firefox, especially with NoScript and a modified hosts file and it's ad-free & malware-free world to me! Haven't seen a flashing banner ads practically forever!

Whenever I'm feeling old-skool, I use Links now & then. :D

Are you running Norton by any chance ? There is a know issue with IE7 where the update to IE7 overrides the homepage protection in Norton, you need to disable this then change your homepage then re-enable (if you want to).

I don't have Norton so cant point you to the exact location but I'm sure you can find it :p

If you don't have Norton then it could be a number of other options - post back :)

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'll poke around in the reg and at the norton thing. Might even give firefox a whirl - :)

Exactly the same thing happens on my home PC.

As someone suggested, I am running Norton, so perhaps that's the problem.

I get it too. No idea why.

Not running Norton - just the standard Virgin anti-virus software.

There also been reports of certain anti-virus and adware/ spyware stuff breaking it as well. You could disable all you anti-nasties stuff change the setting and turn them back - worth a shot !

Firefox is excellent (check out the add on's ;)) but it doesn't work on some websites, Microsoft update for example, it's not because of Firefox itself it because the website does not conform to the standard

Ok. The stupid 'Choose Settings' button finally worked and I click through a couple options and the next time the crazey thing didn't show up... All is well.

But, I downloaded and ran firefox and it can't seem to find any web pages - Any ideas as to why this is happening?

You'll need to be a bit more specific... Did it raise an error at all?

Is this on a work computer where IT may have security policy in effect?

Got firefox to work, seems norton had it blocked - ? I had to disable norton to get it work. Wonder if there is something in norton that can be set to allow it to use firefox...?

Oh, I had forgotten about that.

I don't know what version/kind of Norton you have, but there should be an panel for entering exceptions where you can add programs that you trust and thus don't want Norton to block it. Can't remember where as it's been too long since I've tinkered with Norton.

PS I would want to drop Norton like a hot potato as well.
