:banghead:Hi I am stuck on the following IIF statement- i am either "...missing a closing parenthesis, Bracket (]) or Vertical bar (|)"; or "...the expression i have entered has a function containing the wrong number of arguments"

can someone with fresh eyes please proof read this?
expression is
status:IIF(([Recent]="New" AND [Degree Status]="Active","Continuing",(IIF([Recent]="New" AND [Degree Status]="Not yet Registered","New"),(IIF([Recent]="Recent" AND [Degree Status]="Not yet Registered","Returning"),"")))

the background is that in a query i have two fields which between them tellme if Students are A-new to the programme and this Academic Year, B- Continuing onto a second module in this Academic year, or C- Returning (ie new to this year but have history in Previous Academic Years on the programme)

Thanks in advance for any help and support
Graham

Try the following..
Code:
status:IIF([Recent]="New" AND [Degree Status]="Active","Continuing",IIF([Recent]="New" AND [Degree Status]="Not yet Registered","New",IIF([Recent]="Recent" AND [Degree Status]="Not yet Registered","Returning","")))

Or this could also work..
Code:
Status: IIF([Recent]="New", IIF([Degree Status]="Active", "Continuing", "New"), "Returning")
